Round One

Mother Nature decided to throw 12 inches of snow at us last week.

Dashing through the snow

It's early February in Ohio and we just had a nice big winter storm that dumped at least 9 inches (very likely more) of snow on the farm.  Our poor little horsies were feeling a bit cooped up and decided to go explore the newly fallen snow.  Barb, of course, followed along to document their snow-bound antics.

Dog, er Horse Pile!

At various points many of my friends at work have rather enjoyed stacking our promotional stress toy horses in arrangements of varying precariousness.  I came into work today to find a new arrangement courtesy of our new boss, Harry (or so I've been told).  Thanks Harry! (quite the impressive job of stacking)

New Stall

Most everybody probably knows by now that we got a new pony.  What that means for me is that I spent the last Thursday, Friday and Saturday in the barn building a new stall.  I built the entire thing from scratch and I'm quite happy with the results.  In the next couple of weeks I'm hoping to write a series of articles in our other blog (From the Trainer's Mouth) about how to build a stall, stall door, etc.  For now, I'll leave you with a picture of the very first thing I've ever made out of wood that I am completely happy with:

New blog format

Yes, it is true.  I am never happy satisfied.  EVER.  So I had to make a new blog format.  I hope you like it!

UPDATE: Even more modifications.  Now with 50% smaller pictures in the preview, so it doesn't break the navigation.

In which Carl gets clocked by his drill

Have you ever done something you knew deep down you shouldn't?  Cross the road even though the signal said DON'T WALK (there's nobody coming, right)?  Drink expired milk (it smells okay, must be good right)?  Drive a 6" lag bolt with a high torque cordless drill straight down at head level (what could happen)?
Okay, maybe you've never done that last one, but last Thursday whilst building the new stall for Gummy Bear I did, and that was really, really stupid...

Winter Time

Winter has officially kicked in. We already have had many inches of snow and ice along with temps that have barely been above freezing. Things have slowed down, but the winter landscape has been amazing around here. Granted I had to face below zero temps to get some of the pictures, but I like to think I got a few good ones.
