Shallow Hill would like to welcome its newest member, Kali! She is a five month old lab/ wiemaraner mix that was born in Michigian on tax day.

Kali is a wonderful puppy, loves to play and is obsessed with tennis balls. Right now she is lying low because she was spayed last week, but should be seen around the barn in the next few days. She has adjusted well to her new home and I look forward to spending my days in the barn with her. Kali has buddied up with Six Toe and is getting familiar with the horses.

Mark and Jack pose for their picture

You cannot tell in the picture, but both of them are getting nice and fuzzy. They started growing their winter coats. Mark, who I rescued November of 2006, is healing nicely and is started on the long road to hopefully being ridden some day. For those that do not know his story, I will give the short version.

Long ago, Mark loved to run. He is a standard bred that harness raced. He won. One day, Mark came up lame or sore and his trainer at the time used snake venom to numb the pain so Mark could keep racing. This practice eventually destroyed all of the cartilage in his left ankle. After being claimed, his new owner did try his best to fix Mark, but unfortunately Mark just did not heal, the damage was too great. The new owner retired him and sent him to a farm were they just did not take care of him. When I first saw Mark, he was severely under weight and lame in both front feet. Come to find out that not only he had an issue with the front left, no cartilage and all, he also had an abscess in is right front.

He came to Shallow Hill to be a pasture buddy to who ever needed one. This is allowing his ankle to heal on its own, letting Mother Nature do her thing. He is a wonderful sweet boy that gets along with everyone I turn out with.

This is Marks forever home, I just cannot picture feeding in the morning and not seeing his goofy antics as he races Jack and Xander to the barn. I often wonder if he is reliving his glory days, but he is probably just hungry.
