Carl dove into the idea of finding a tractor. There are so many different models that he even had to create a spreadsheet to keep everything organized.
We headed out to two implements, tractor speak for dealerships. One to check out a new compact Kubota and another to check out a used Massey Ferguson utility tractor. Looking at tractors is not like looking at cars. There are only a handful of implements in the state, yes state, and each one only has a few to look at. It is not like shopping for cars when there are dealerships after dealerships on every corner filled with every model you can fathom.
Carl was eager to find the perfect tractor and was well prepared with all the right questions, my job was to look at the shinny tractors and huge farm equipment with a confused look on my face.
Talk about laid back salesmen. After looking at the Kubota we drove an hour to see the Massey Ferguson. The salesman for the Massey Ferguson actually talked us into buying the Kubota, the tractor he was NOT selling. How cool is that!!
So now we are an orange farm, tractor speak for having a Kubota because they are orange. John Deer = green; Massey Ferguson = red. Once the tractor arrived we quickly started to break it in by moving the manure pile to a corner of the hayfield. I think I hogged the tractor all day!! But Carl did get his turn. If you are keeping track, I bumped the fence and Carl tapped the trailer AND dented the down spout.
